yes, i have been very bad about keeping up with my blog. i have failed to make it a must-do and have let it fall through the cracks.
thanks to my friend dinna for staying in touch and commenting on my omelette in a bag.
airline update: so far no satisfaction in my quest to have my elite status reinstated with Northwest www.nwa.com after i lost it due to deceptive practices on the part of their partnerContinental www.continental.com. in fact, they didn't even reply to my complaint email. i'm not giving up. i sent a letter to the head of WorldPerks Mr. Bob Soukup. the least i could do since he sent me a christmas card. plus, Continental screwed me again. they only gave me half miles on a trip to atlanta AFTER I PAID THE FEE TO BE PUT IN A FARE CLASS THAT WOULD GUARANTEE ME ALL MY MILES. these people have no shame and no mercy.
thought i might get a response on my obama column but i guess no one reads this thing. now that he's running for prez i guess it's even more timely.

Barack Obama : The Great White Hope or Is Barack Really Black
am i the only one who is not psyched about barack obama? i mean, c'mon, this guy is the poster boy for politics as usual. he's a darker bill clinton with less experience. he's all charm and charisma and promises for the future while making all the deals all politicians make to get to the top.
worst of all, he's the black guy white people can feel good about, which may be his main attraction and biggest fault.
let's put it right out there. this country is still run by white folks, white folks are still the majority and white folks still like other white folks best. they like their minorities as white as they can be without actually being white.
barack obama fits that bill much like colin powell did/does. i agreed with what harry belafonte said about colin powell when he was with the bush white house although i won't repeat it here.
harry belafonte is black. he's proud of being black and he's not trying particularly hard to be white or to make white people like him. harry belafonte and anyone like him ain't gettin' elected to nothin'.
barack obama might, even though i still think it's a stretch to believe when it comes time to pull the lever a majority of white folks would really vote for him. lots of blacks likely would, if only to get a black man elected to one of the top jobs and for that i don't blame them even though i think there are a lot of black men and women who would serve them better.
i'm not sure barack is really black, regardless of his skin color. he's a politician. that's a different animal all together. much like money, the wielding of power many times cuts across ethnic lines. believe me, a rich white person has much more in common with a rich black person, rich asian person, etc than they do with a poor white. politicians have much more in common with each other than they have with their constituencies.
strange words from a self-described middle-aged white guy, you say. i guess some would think so. i mean, i'm supposed to be on that train with the bushes and cheneys and clintons and kerrys like all the others of my ilk who keep putting them in office. but i'm not.
dont' forget. i'm also a plainclothes iconoclast.
